Cavan Potholes was written by Donal Lunny specifically for Sharon Shannon, creating the sort of ethnic cocktail for which she is known.

Although maintaining her own unique style she has expanded her musical versatility by teaming up with veteran reggae artist and producer Denis Bovell, and this reggae jig demonstrates the fusion of cultural influences.

Biography

Sharon Shannon comes from County Clare on the west coast of Ireland, an area steeped in traditional music. An inspired accordian player, she began her recording career in 1989. Shortly after singer Mike Scott of The Waterboys asked her to join the band, a collaboration that had Sharon featuring on their Room to Roam album.

By 1991 she had completed her own album, 'Sharon Shannon', which includes tracks from Steve Cooney, Trevor Hutchinson and Liam Ó Maonlaí. The album, a stunning cocktail of ethnic influences, rapidly became the most successful traditional album ever released.

Over the last few years Sharon has toured extensively. Her second album, 'Out the Gap', released in 1994, breaks down more musical barriers and reflects the many influences which she has absorbed.
